A local leader of Awami League was stabbed to death allegedly by miscreants at Char Shibrampur in Sadar upazila of Pabna on Thursday.
The dead man was Khairul Islam, 42, convener of Ward no. 9 Hemayetpur Union Awami League and son of Saber Ali.
Quoting family members, police said some unidentified miscreants swooped on Khairul when he went to the sluice gate area for catching fish in the evening and stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured, UNB reports.
Later, he was taken to Pabna General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at around 9:00pm, said Obaidul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Police suspected that miscreants might have killed him over previous enmity.
