The body of a Bangladeshi expatriate has been recovered from a river in Northern California, 10 days after he went missing during a fishing trip.

Police recovered the body of 38-year-old engineer Shahnur Alam Sabuj on Monday in Alameda County near Sacramento after it was seen floating in the water, bdnews24.com reports.

Sabuj, originally from Bogura, moved to the United States on an immigrant visa in 2008.

He lived in Alameda County with his wife and their seven-month-old son.

According to family members and local police, Sabuj went missing on Mar 7.

Investigators found two fishing rods, shoes, and a bucket at the spot where he had been fishing, though one rod and a fishing net were missing.

As Sabuj did not know how to swim, authorities believe he may have been pulled into the river while attempting to land a large fish.

Despite an extensive search by local police and naval units following his disappearance, he remained missing until his body surfaced on Monday.

His funeral prayers and burial are scheduled to be held on Wednesday afternoon local time at a Muslim cemetery in Alameda County.
