The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested two more suspects in the grisly murder of a scrap trader near Old Dhaka’s Mitford Hospital.

The suspects, identified by their first names as Sajib and Rajib, were arrested early on Sunday morning in Netrokona, according to the DB Joint Commissioner Nasirul Islam.

Sajib is listed as the seventh suspect in the case, while Rajib is the 10th accused.

On Jul 9, Sohag was beaten to death in public with a concrete block near Gate No. 3 of Mitford Hospital. He was a trader of scrap and old wires.

According to police and locals, those involved in the killing, as well as those suspected to be behind it, were all known to the victim. Some were even former business associates. That such a violent murder could result from a business dispute has shocked those who knew them.

Following the incident, the victim’s sister, Manjuara Begum, filed a case on Jul 10. Police soon arrested Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, 41, and Tarek Rahman Robin, 22, recovering a firearm from him in the process.

On Friday, the RAB arrested two more suspects, Alamgir, 28, and Monir alias Lomba Monir, 32, at Ibn Sina Hospital in Keraniganj. Later that night, police arrested another suspect, Titon Gazi, 32.

With the latest arrests in Netrokona, the total number of people detained in the high-profile case now stands at seven.
