A 30-year-old was killed in a mob attack allegedly after assaulting his mother and wife in Tala upazila of Satkhira district.
The deceased was identified as Habibur Moral (30), son of the late Abdullah Moral from the same village.
The incident took place in the Ataroi village of the upazila around 10 pm
According to his mother, Parul Begum, Habibur was addicted to drugs and would often physically abuse both her and his wife.
"Tonight, he demanded money from me to buy a motorcycle," she said. "When I offered to sell land to arrange the money, he became violent and started beating me and his wife mercilessly," she said.
His wife, Shanta, said, "He regularly beat us for money to support his addiction. Tonight, when he assaulted both of us again, the neighbours rushed in to rescue us and beat him up in the process. He later died from the injuries."
Moin Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tala Police Station, said, "We visited the scene. The body has been kept at Tala Upazila Hospital. Legal procedures are underway," he said.
