Mobbers to be treated as ‘devils’: Adviser Mahfuj

Warning against mob violence, Adviser Mahfuj Alam has said that those who engage in such violence will be treated as ‘devils’.

“If you support the uprising, stop mobbing. And if you engage in mob violence, you will be treated as devils,”he wrote in a Facebook post on his verified account on Monday.

“No more appeals will be made after today’s incident,” he added, apparently referring to a mob attack on a book stall at the ongoing Ekushey Book Fair.

Terming the so-called movement and mob showdowns as an attempt to make the state ineffective and failed, he said that there would no leniency if anyone tried to do it.

Addressing the public, he cautioned against actions that could jeopardise the peace achieved after one and a half decade.

“Towhidi Janata, you have had the scope for practicing your religion and culture in peace after over 15 years,” he said, warning: Your stupidity or fanaticism is going to be the reason of ruining that scope.”

Alam urged all to refrain from oppression saying, "Refrain from oppression, or definitely face it."

Quoting a verse from the Quran, Alam said, "Do not oppress, nor be oppressed.

"This is my last appeal to you! his post concluded.
