Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique has said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) cannot evade responsibility for the failure to arrange a bilateral meeting between UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus during the latter's official visit to London last week.

Briefing reporters at the foreign ministry on Tuesday, Mr Siddique said Bangladesh had expected the meeting to take place, especially after the UK High Commission in Dhaka confirmed that the visit had been upgraded to an official one.

"In such visits, a bilateral meeting between the two heads of government is generally expected, and that is why we said the meeting might happen," he added.

Despite the missed meeting, he termed the visit a success, noting that several prominent figures met with the chief adviser during the trip.
