Traffic congestions at the end of different exit ramps of Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover will be reduced further within a month as the authorities are working with the traffic department in this regard.

Chief engineer of Local Government Engineering Department Shyama Prosad Adhikari  said this on Wednesday while talking to UNB.

Talking to the journalists at Mouchak point after visiting the flyover, the LGED chief engineer said traffic congestion underneath the flyover has already eased.

“We are monitoring the traffic situation on and underneath the flyover,” he said.

The traffic congestion has already decreased in just a week since the Malibagh-Mouchak part was opened to the public, and Adhikari is hopeful that it would ease further after a month.

Terming the construction of the flyover as part of the Strategic Transport Plan for Dhaka (STPD), Shyama Prosad Adhikari said the city dwellers would get 100 percent benefit from it after total implementation of the STPD.

There are 76 features of the STPD including construction of metro rails. This flyover is one of them. Thus, traffic congestion will totally be reduced after the completion of all the plans, he hoped.

On signaling system on the flyover, he said they introduced it considering the narrow corridors of the flyover. Such signaling systems had been introduced in other countries including India and Tanzania.

On huge traffic congestion following its inauguration of the flyover on October 26, he said it happened because of deluge of onlookers. It should not be considered normal traffic within seven days of the inauguration, he said.

He said at a cost of almost Tk 1490 crore, the flyover has been constructed economically compared to the other flyover projects in the country.
