A woman and her young daughter have been found dead with their throats slashed in Cox’s Bazar’s Kutubdia Upazila.
The incident took place around 2pm on Friday in the Shanti Bazar of Ali Akbar Deil union, according to Kutubdia Police Station chief Md Arman Hossain.
The dead were identified as Runa Akter, 35, and her daughter Zariya Akter, 6.
Police retrieved the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination at Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital.
OC Arman, citing relatives of the victims, said Nur Akter Saudagar, the husband and father, had gone to a local mosque to offer his Juma prayers. Upon returning home, he noticed a silence in the house and proceeded to the kitchen.
“There, he found his wife and daughter lying in a bloodied state on the kitchen floor. Locals then informed police, who came and retrieved the bodies,” he added.
“Upon seeing the bodies, Nur reportedly fainted. Locals rushed him to Kutubdia Upazila Health Complex,” the police officer said.
OC Arman said there were marks of sharp weapon injuries on the throats of the victims.
“We suspect assailants attacked the mother and daughter during Juma prayers and fled the scene,” said the officer.
“However, the identities or motives of those responsible for the murders have not yet been confirmed,” he added.
