West Bengal Police have arrested two people in connection with the murder of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anna in Kolkata's Newtown. Among them, a Bangladeshi citizen, named Siam, was arrested by the CID. Siam was said to have been in that flat in Sanjiba Gardens on the day of the murder on May 13 and was responsible for the dismemberment and disappearance of the MP’s body.
In the same incident, a cab driver named Juber was also arrested by the investigating officers. He is being interrogated continuously. Meanwhile, his car has also been impounded. The white coloured Maruti car was seized on Thursday morning.
According to police sources, the assailants rented the car through online rental on April 30. MP of Jhenaidah-4 Constituency Anwarul Azim Anar went to India on May 12. He boarded the previously known house of Gopal Biswas in Baranagar. The next day, on May 13, MP Annar left Gopal's house, saying he was going for treatment.
He was allegedly murdered that night in a flat in Sanjiba Gardens, Newtown. In the first phase, on May 14, the dismembered body of the MP was taken out of the flat in a trolley bag. Then the white cab was picked up.
Sources said that Siam, who was arrested by the CID, was responsible for removing the body parts.
Several plastic bags were found in that flat in Sanjiba Gardens. According to the police, the bags were brought to remove the body parts of MP Anar.
During interrogation, the cab driver said that on May 14, he dropped a woman and two men with a trolley bag in front of Axis shopping mall.
CID learned from the CCTV footage that the car was parked near Nazrul Tirth for about 15 minutes before it was dropped at Axis Shopping Mall.
At that time, there was a discussion in the car about where to throw the body parts. CID officials said the cab driver could hear the conversation. He then dropped the accused in front of Axis shopping mall. As a result, the cab driver knows many things, which the investigators assume that he is not telling.
A case has already been registered at Newtown police station in connection with the murder of the Bangladeshi MP.
Meanwhile, another vehicle has been seized in this incident. In that car, MP Annar went to Kolkata New Market and Sanjiba Gardens. The forensic team collected evidence from inside the car on Wednesday evening in front of the Newtown police station. It was learned that the owner had let the car be used on rent. He is being interrogated by the police at the Newtown police station.
