Member of Parliament for Jhenaidah-4 constituency Md Anwarul Azim Anar was killed by some Bangladeshi criminals, Detective Branch (DB) Chief Harun-Or-Rashid has said.
"We have taken some of them into custody. For the sake of the investigation, we are not disclosing their names at this time. The rest will also be brought to justice," he told reporters at the DB office on Minto Road in Dhaka city on Wednesday.
The DB chief said MP Anwar had left for India from the Parliament area.
"A case related to this incident will be filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station by the end of today," he said. "His daughter has approached us for assistance and advice on filing the case, and we will provide her with the necessary support."
When asked whether the lawmaker's body had been recovered, Mr Harun did not provide an answer.
