The High Court on Sunday declared illegal a government decision to cancel the monthly payment order (MPO) benefits for Hasina Begum, an Assistant Professor of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, also the former acting principal of the institution.
The High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque delivered the verdict after hearing a writ petition filed in this regard.
Advocate Siddique Ullah Miah who appeared in the court hearing on behalf of Hasina Begum said the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Education Ministry scrapped the MPO benefits for Hasina Begum through a notification issued on January 27, 2020. Then she challenged the decision by filing a writ petition with the High Court.
Following the writ petition, the High Court on February 11, 2020 stayed the effectiveness of the notification and also issued a rule upon the respondents to explain as to why the notification should not be declared illegal. After holding a final hearing on the rule, the High Court declared it absolute on Sunday.
