Teachers and employees of the private MPO-enlisted schools will see increases in festival, housing and medical allowances with effect from the next Eid-ul-Azha.

Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud made the announcement during his farewell as adviser to the education ministry at its conference room in secretariat on Wednesday.

CR Abrar (Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar), newly appointed adviser to the education ministry, was also present on the occasion.

After taking his oath at Bangabhaban, he joined the programme.

The newly appointed adviser was welcomed with flowers by outgoing education adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud and senior ministry officials at the event.

Dr Mahmud said: "Staring from the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, their (MPO-enlisted teachers) festival, housing and medical allowances will rise to some extent from the next budget."

"I am not making a formal announcement here, but provisions are being kept in the current and next year's budgets."

Terming the welfare and retirement allowances for private MPO-enlisted teachers 'the most legitimate demands, Mr Mahmud said a fund for retirement and welfare allowances has already been partially established this year for them.

The fund would continue to grow in the upcoming budget, he said, adding that one or two budgets are not sufficient enough to make it sustainable.

It can be achieved within three to four budgets, he observed.
