Finance Minister AMA Muhith is going to USA on Thursday to attend the annual meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
During his visit, the Finance Minister will attend a number of events of the World Bank and IMF in Washington, reports UNB.
He will also take part in the High-Level Special Session on Tobacco Taxation: Win-Win for Public Health & Domestic Resources Mobilisation, Commonwealth finance ministers' meeting with the theme 'Advancing jobs and resilience through innovation', CFMM reception and celebrations of Canadian's 150th anniversary, Implementing the SDGs: Global Goals, Local Solutions, Mobilising private sector for development Bangladesh PPP Experience.
Besides, he will have meetings with MIGA Executive Vice President and CEO Keiko Honda, Deputy Managing Director of IMF Mitsuhiro Furusawa, World Bank's South Asia region Vice President Annette Dixon and AIIB President Jin Luqun.
Apart from this, Muhith will attend the International Conclave on 'Journey of Bangladesh from MDG to SDGs' to be held in New York as well as meet UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and High Representative for UN DHRLLS Fekitamoeloa Katoa.
Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir, Economic Relations Division (ERD) Secretary Kazi Shofiqul Azam and Finance Division acting Secretary Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury will accompany the Finance Minister during the tour.
Muhith is expected to return home on October 22.
The annual meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and IMF bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, parliamentarians, private sector executives, representatives from civil society organisations and academics to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development and aid effectiveness.
Also featured are seminars, regional briefings, press conferences, and many other events focused on the global economy, international development, and the world's financial system. This year's events will take place in Washington on October 9-15.
