Two suspected pirates have been killed in a shootout with RAB at Alirtek area in Sadar upazila of Narayanganj district.

The deceased were identified as pirate gang Zillur Bahini leader Zillur and one of his accomplices, RAB source said.

Several cases have been filed against the two, RAB said.

Alep Uddin, senior assistant superintendent of police and also company commander of RAB-11, said the incident occurred in the Alirtek area early on Monday.

“RAB began an operation on the Dhaleswari River in Alirtek after receiving a tip that the Zillur Bahini were preparing to rob a boat. The gang opened fire once they noticed the RAB team and RAB returned fire,” he said.

Uddin said that two of the bandits, including ‘pirate leader’ Zillur were shot. The rest fled. The wounded were recovered and taken to Narayanganj Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, reports bdnews24.

RAB-11 Inspector Zahirul Islam and Constable Jamal were injured in the shootout, said the RAB official.

A pistol and several other weapons were recovered from the spot, he added.
