The government has decided to observe national mourning on Tuesday remembering the people who were killed during recent protests over the reformation of government job quota.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the cabinet on Monday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
Black badges will be worn across the country as part of the nationwide mourning, Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain said at a briefing.
“All citizens, whether working in government or private jobs, will be able to take part. However, no decision has been made on whether the national flag will be flown at half-mast,” he said.
Prayer services will be held at mosques, temples, churches and pagodas.
The cabinet meeting was apprised of the deaths of 150 people due to violence during the protests. A motion of condolence was adopted in the meeting for the deaths.
