National Professor Dr Malik passes away, PM mourns

National Professor Brigadier (retd) Dr Abdul Malik, the founder of the National Heart Foundation and the country's renowned cardiologist, passed away on Tuesday.

According to the local media reports, he was undergoing treatment at the Heart Foundation when he died at 9:40 am.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter and a host of other relatives to mourn his death. His daughter, Dr Fazilatunnecha Malik, holds the position of professor of Cardiology at the National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute in Dhaka.

His son Masud Malik is engaged in business, while his other son, Manju Malik, is presently employed in Canada.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Dr Malik.

In a condolence message, the prime minister said that Dr Abdul Malik was the pioneer of heart disease treatment in Bangladesh.

“He was a successful doctor, renowned teacher, and social worker. He has been awarded and appreciated in various ways for his philanthropic activities. His contribution in the field of heart disease treatment in Bangladesh will be remembered forever.”

The prime minister prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
