Gazette issued confirming Nazrul Bangladesh's national poet

The government has finally recognised Kazi Nazrul Islam as the national poet of Bangladesh.

The recognition was announced through a gazette on Thursday by the cultural ministry, effective from May 4, 1972, when he arrived in Bangladesh.

The Advisory Council had in December last year approved the proposal to honour Nazrul with the title of Bangladesh's national poet.
