The National Board of Revenue (NBR) Oikka Parishad has announced a pen-down programme once again for June 23, rejecting the newly-formed committee on amendment to the ordinance, meant for bifurcating the revenue board.

At a press conference at NBR premises on Saturday, the members of the Parishad called upon all officials and staff in the capital to stage demonstration and observe the pen-down programme from 9.0 am to 12 pm on the day.

They also demanded resignation of the NBR chairman holding him responsible for the mishandled reforms.

On May 12, 2025, the Ministry of Finance issued the ordinance to dissolve the NBR by bifurcating it into two wings -- revenue policy and revenue administration. Later, the MoF suspended implementation of the ordinance until July 31, 2025 for amending it addressing the concern of revenue officials.

Following the MoF order, the NBR formed the six-member committee comprising six members from income tax, customs and VAT wings to look into the matter.
