The National Consensus Commission (NCC) has extended the date for submitting feedback or any other suggestions on the draft national charter for two days until August 22 upon request from left leaning political parties.

The commission, in a notice, extended the time on Wednesday.

An official of the commission told the FE that five political parties appealed for extending the time for the submission of their responses.

The parties are— The Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Basad), Basad (Marxist), and Gono Forum.

The commission is currently working with legal and constitutional experts on the draft July Charter to find solutions, including a legal binding, implementation method and address notes of dissent from political parties.

The draft has already been sent to the parties, and the NCC has asked them to submit their responses by the afternoon of August 20 now August 22.

After getting their responses and experts’ feedback, the commission will sit with the parties again to give the final nod.
