The National Consensus Commission (NCC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit their feedback on the final draft of the July Charter by two days, to August 22.
The commission, in a notice issued on Wednesday, extended the deadline. Five political parties had appealed for the extension to submit their responses, an official from the commission told the Financial Express.
The parties are the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Basad), Basad (Marxist), and Gono Forum. The commission is currently collaborating with legal and constitutional experts on the draft July Charter to find solutions. This includes establishing legal bindings, a method for implementation, and addressing notes of dissent from the political parties.
The draft has already been sent to the parties. The NCC has asked them to submit their responses by the afternoon of August 22, a change from the previous August 20 deadline.
After receiving the responses and feedback from experts, the commission will meet with the parties again to give the final approval.
