Law-enforcing agencies have stepped up security in Khagrachhari ahead of the National Citizen Party's “July March” programme.

The march is scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm on Monday from Chengi Square in Khagrachhari town, followed by a rally at the town’s Mukto Moncho.

Khagrachhari Superintendent of Police Arefin Jewel said police are on high alert. A total of 620 police personnel have been deployed. Armed Police Battalion and the Army are also on standby, as per a bdnews24.com report.

Various parts of the town are bedecked with banners and festoons welcoming NCP leaders ahead of the event, with law enforcers stationed at key intersections.

Monjila Akhter Jhuma, NCP's organiser for the southern region and a member of the Khagrachhari District Parishad, said: “People will join the programme from all nine Upazilas of the district. The march will begin at 12:00 pm from Chengi Square.”

“It will pass through Mahajan Para, Narkel Bagan, the market area, and Court Road, ending at the Shapla Chattar. The public rally will begin at 1:00 pm at Mukto Mancho.”

NCP Convenor Nahid Islam, Chief Organiser for the Southern Region Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organiser for the Northern Region Sarjis Alam, and Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Zara are among the leaders expected to attend the Khagrachhari event.

“We hope all parties will cooperate with our peaceful programme,” said Jhuma.
