The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) cancelled over 80,000 textbooks from three printing presses for using substandard paper, binding errors, and various irregularities.
The canceled books have been shredded, and at the same time, the authorities have issued show-cause notices to the presses.
If their responses are unsatisfactory, actions will be taken against them as per regulations, according to a local media report.
Later, the presses were instructed to print the books on good-quality paper, in accordance with the tender conditions.
Members of the Inspection and Monitoring Team stated that, according to the tender conditions, Farazi Press did not adhere to the required bursting factor for the paper.
Moreover, the brightness of the paper used for their printed books was low, which could cause eye problems for children.
