The National Democratic Front (NDF) has said that the return of Tarique Rahman from exile will help ensure an “inclusive” election.
The observation was made in a statement issued on Thursday, signed by the front’s President Anisul Islam Mahmud and the party’s spokesperson ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader.
The newly-formed alliance has welcomed Tarique back home.
The people of the country have long desired democratic rights, voting rights, and an accountable system of governance -- the aspirations that drove the July Uprising, the statement said.
“To realise this, democratic forces need to unite and act responsibly,” the statement said.
“Tarique Rahman’s return to the country will help create a positive environment for organising an inclusive, participatory, and credible election, and he will play a constructive role in establishing democratic rights to fulfill the legitimate aspirations of the people,” the statement said.
The statement also urged political parties to exercise restraint, be patient, show mutual respect, and create a stable and democratic political environment through dialogue.
