NEIR launch deferred to January 1

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has postponed the launch of the National Equipment Identification Register (NEIR) by 15 days, setting January 1 as the revised start date.

Previously scheduled for December 16, Victory Day, the launch had sparked protests from mobile phone traders.

In a statement on Monday, BTRC confirmed the revised date, reiterating that the NEIR will now register all mobile handsets nationwide as part of the mandatory handset registration initiative.
