Ad-din Medical College Hospital authorities have termed the health ministry’s notice seeking the cancellation of its licence over the deaths of six newborns unlawful and announced plans to take legal action against the move.
Two nurses have been temporarily suspended over allegations of professional negligence, while immediate disciplinary measures have been taken against those found to have neglected their duties, Mohammad Shishir Monir said on Saturday while speaking at a press conference on behalf of the hospital authorities.
The hospital also pledged to take strict action against those responsible for the incident and provide lifelong support, along with a respectable compensation package, to the affected families.
Exemplary punishment will be ensured following the completion of the investigation, the hospital’s legal counsel said.
Expressing deep sympathy to the bereaved families, the hospital announced a number of special measures, including a commitment to stand by the victims’ families for life.
The authorities also assured employment at the hospital for any eligible member of the affected families and said a respectable financial compensation package would be provided.
Mr Monir further said both the victims’ families and Ad-din Hospital believed that the institution should not suffer irreparable damage or face closure because of the unfortunate incident.
However, he said the families were demanding exemplary punishment for those genuinely responsible for the tragedy, a position with which the hospital authorities fully agreed.
