Newly elected Member of Parliament from a reserved women’s seat, Nusrat Tabassum Jyoti, will take oath on Wednesday at 12:00 noon at the Speaker’s office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, will administer the oath to her, according to a notification issued by the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat on Tuesday.
Earlier on Monday, Nusrat Tabassum Jyoti, nominated by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its alliance, was elected unopposed to a reserved women’s seat in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
Following a High Court order dated April 27 in writ petition No. 5022/2026, her nomination papers were accepted and scrutinised on May 2 and subsequently declared valid.
As she was the only valid candidate, Nusrat was declared elected unopposed under Section 12(2) of the National Parliament (Reserved Women Seats) Election Act, 2004.
Earlier, on April 30, the EC published the final gazette of 49 MPs elected to reserved women’s seats in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
According to the gazette, 36 MPs from the BNP-led alliance, 12 from the Jamaat-e-Islami and its allies, and one from an independent alliance were elected unopposed as the number of candidates matched the number of vacant seats.
With the election of Nusrat Tabassum Jyoti, the process of electing all 50 reserved women’s seats in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad has now been completed.
