Darwani Textile Mill has resumed operations 22 years after it was closed in the face of huge losses in Nilphamari district.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the operation at a function last week, with Chairman of Bangladesh Textile Mill Corporation Brigadier General Mahboob Ahamed Zakaria in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner Md Khaled Rahim, District Council Chairman Joynal Abedin and Superintendent of Police Zakir Hossain were also present there.
Established in April 1980, the entity had been contributing hugely to the textile sector by producing high quality yarn, but it had to be closed amid huge losses in 1995.
The factory went back into operation on service charge contract basis for several times, but this is the first time that the factory was put back into operation on the stipulated payment system.
