Nine die of dengue, highest single-day toll this year
915 new patients hospitalised
Nine more people have died of dengue – the highest for a single day – while 915 more patients have been hospitalised with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease across the country in the past 24 hours.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said as many as 343 were hospitalised in Dhaka among the new dengue patients until Saturday morning.
In addition, 88 were hospitalised in the Dhaka Division, 45 in the Mymensingh Division, 197 in the Chattogram Division, 97 in the Khulna Division, 24 in the Rajshahi Division, nine in the Rangpur Division, 108 in the Barishal Division, and four in the Sylhet Division.
With the new counts, the number of hospitalised dengue patients has reached 41,810 this year. A total of 210 people died among them, bdnews24.com reports.
As many as 3,651 patients are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in hospitals across the country. They include 1,849 in the capital and 1,802 outside Dhaka.
The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.
Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. The highest 1,705 people also died of the disease that year.
