Nine more die of dengue

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported nine more deaths due to mosquito-borne dengue fever on Thursday, taking the total death toll to 444.

Of the new casualties, seven were from Dhaka and two from the rest of the country. Of the total deaths, 336 were from Dhaka, as per the DGHS data.

The official data of hospitalisations due to dengue fever in August might surpass all the previous records, as a growing number of cases are being recorded every day.

The DGHS registered 2,288 hospitalisations across the country till 8:00 am on Thursday, including 1,389 from outside Dhaka, showing a worsening dengue situation in other cities also.

Last year, 281 people died of dengue, the second highest in the country's history.

Meanwhile, the total dengue cases rose to 94,312. Of the total cases, 46,129 were from Dhaka.

A total of 8,661 people are being treated in hospitals across the country, of whom 3,804 are from Dhaka.

Of the total admitted, 85,207 patients recovered and returned home, and of the recovered 41,989 were in Dhaka, added the DGHS.
