No politically motivated arrests have been made in the country, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said on Thursday while speaking at the parliament.
“At the moment, 63,830 prisoners are in different jails in Bangladesh. This number increases from time to time, but no one has been arrested for political reasons. We have arrested them on specific charges, including murder, violence, terrorism, and arson.”
The minister made the remarks while participating in a discussion session on the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025 at the parliament today. Speaker Shireen Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session.
