Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari is no longer affiliated with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Bangladesh, leaders of the organisation said at a press conference on Thursday.
They clarified that Chinmoy was expelled from ISKCON months ago for breaching organisational discipline, and the organisation bears no responsibility for his statements or activities.
General Secretary of the organisation Charu Chandra Das Brahmachari, in the conference held at its Dhaka headquarters, denied ISKCON’s involvement in the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif in Chattogram.
“We want to make it clear that ISKCON Bangladesh has no connection whatsoever with such disgraceful incidents or the ongoing movements. The false propaganda has reached such an extent that even incidents like road accidents are being portrayed as conspiracies by ISKCON", he said.
Chinmoy, along with Lilraj Gaur Das, Gauranga Das was expelled from the organisation for violating its rules. Therefore, ISKCON Bangladesh is not responsible in any way for the statements and actions of its expelled members, Brahmachari said.
Calling for a ban on ISKCON Bangladesh based on Chinmoy Krishna’s activities is not justified, he said.
ISKCON Bangladesh President Satyaranjan Baroi strongly urged authorities to ensure exemplary punishment for the perpetrators involved in the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam.
In the press conference, he stated that ISKCON Bangladesh is a non-political and peaceful religious organisation dedicated to promoting communal harmony, religious tolerance, and human welfare in Bangladesh, just as it does across the world.
When asked about the statement made by Suvendu Adhikari, a BJP leader from West Bengal and the leader of the opposition in the state's legislative assembly, Hrishikesh Gauranga Das, a member of ISKCON Bangladesh's executive committee, clarified, "ISKCON is an international organisation and is not operated from India. What an individual says is their own matter."
