Law Minister Anisul Huq says the executive order banning Jamaat-e-Islami, which already lost its registration as a political party for committing war crimes, will be announced shortly after the legal process is complete, reports bdnews24.com.
The minister made the remark to the media in front of his office at the Secretariat on Thursday.
He previously said on Wednesday that Jamaat will be banned from politics by an executive order due to its ‘involvement’ in the recent violence surrounding the quota reform protests. However, the step took one more day due to the legal process, he said.
The law minister said, “The decision to ban Jamaat was taken in a meeting of the 14-Party Alliance. It requires a legal process. Legal obligations have also to be fulfilled in respect of gazette notification. After fulfilling the legal responsibility on Wednesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs sent the notice to the Ministry of Law this morning. We sent it back to the home ministry after vetting.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs will publish the gazette notification shortly. The government banned Jamaat, Shibir and its other associate organisations under Section 18 of the anti-terror law.”
