Former Sonagazi OC Moazzem Hossain has been suspended for his negligent handling of the case over the murder of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi, who was burnt by assailants in Feni.
Moazzem has been transferred to the DIG’s office in Rangpur after a probe found that he had mishandled the case, Assistant Inspector General (Media) of Police Sohel Rana said on Friday.
“The decision has been taken in accordance with the recommendations of a probe panel formed by the Police Headquarters," said Sohel.
"Moazzem Hossain will not receive a salary or any other facilities for the time being. He will only be entitled to a food allowance,” he added.
A probe panel from the Police Headquarters investigated the police’s role in the handling of the Nusrat case and recommended disciplinary measures be taken against OC Moazzem and four other policemen over their negligence, reports bdnews24.com.
The five-strong panel led by DIG SM Ruhul Amin submitted its report on Apr 30.
Nusrat, 18, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa in Feni, was set ablaze on April 6 for allegedly refusing to withdraw a sexual harassment case that she filed against madrasa principal SM Siraj-ud-Daula.
