Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said traffic would remain restricted on Manik Mia Avenue and Lake Road in the capital today (Tuesday) for the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected members of parliament (MPs) and the newly-formed cabinet.
DMP deputy commissioner (media and public relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman, in a press release on Monday, said traffic on the two roads would remain limited from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm on February 17.
The oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected MPs would be held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban. Members of the new cabinet would take oath at the South Plaza of the parliament complex. A large gathering is expected in the parliament area on the occasion, it added.
During the ceremony, vehicular movement would be restricted from Khejur Bagan Crossing to Manik Mia Avenue, and from July Memorial Museum to Urojahaj Crossing along Lake Road.
To ensure smooth vehicular movements across the capital, the DMP Traffic Division issued following diversion instructions:
Mirpur Road to Farmgate: Vehicles from the north would travel via Protibesh Gap-Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre-Urojahaj Crossing-Bijoy Sarani, and then turn right towards Farmgate.
Dhanmondi-27 to Farmgate: Vehicles would pass Asad Gate-Defence Gap and continue via Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre-Urojahaj Crossing-Bijoy Sarani to reach Farmgate.
Asad Gate to Farmgate: From Asad Gate, vehicles would turn left towards July Memorial Museum, and then proceed via Defence Gap-Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre-Urojahaj Crossing-Bijoy Sarani to Farmgate.
Elevated Expressway/Indira Road to Dhanmondi: Vehicles would turn right at Khejur Bagan Crossing, continue via Urojahaj Crossing-Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre, and then go left at Defence Gap towards Asad Gate and Dhanmondi.
Mirpur Road to Dhanmondi: Southbound vehicles would travel via Shyamoli-Shishu Mela-July Memorial Museum-Asad Gate to Dhanmondi-27.
Elevated Expressway: Motorists are advised to use the FDC (Hatirjheel) ramp instead of the Farmgate exit ramp during the ceremony.
