Road Transport And Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader hopes the journeys during upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holidays will be more comfortable than previous years.

The minister came up with the expectation during a visit to the Mohakhali Bus Terminal in Dhaka on Friday, reports bdnews24.com.

“Journeys on Dhaka-Tangail-Elenga Highway will be comfortable; sufferings will be tolerable as the prime minister has opened 23 bridges,” the minister said.

The Feni Rail Overpass on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway, which had created some problems during the last Eid, has also opened, according to Quader.

Other complications have also been removed and the authorities have stopped development work, he claimed.

“I believe journeys during this Eid will be comfortable,” the Awami League general secretary hoped.

He also claimed the travellers have complained less this time than they did before when he spoke to them.

The minister closed the ticket counter of Starline on Dhaka-Sirajganj route immediately after a passenger alleged the transport company was charging more for Eid holiday journeys.

He urged cattle traders and transporters to load or unload vehicles at designated places. “And,” he said, “there will be no problem if unfit vehicles are kept out of the road.”

On being asked, the Awami League general secretary alleged the BNP was trying to destabilise the country with events like the ones that led to the takeover by the military-controlled caretaker government on Jan 11, 2007.

“A part of the media along with the actors of the 1/11 episode is assisting them. The BNP is making the same conspiracy again,” he claimed.
