A young man has been killed after an oil tanker lost control and rammed into a used car dealership at Notun Bazar in Dhaka’s Pragati Sarani.
Police have yet to identify the victim, who was around 25 years old.
The driver of the oil tanker, identified as 45-year-old Md Ibrahim, was arrested following the incident, said Sub-Inspector Ashraful Islam of Vatara Police Station.
“The fuel-laden lorry had unloaded oil in the Airport area and was heading towards Badda when it veered off and crashed into the A-One Trading showroom,” said the police officer.
“The young man was critically injured. Passersby first took him to a local hospital before transferring him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at 5pm,” he added.
The unidentified victim was wearing a checkered T-shirt and trousers.
Police are trying to determine his identity.
His body has been sent to the morgue for a post-mortem examination.
