Old Dhaka chemical warehouse fire death toll rises to four

Two more have people died in the chemical warehouse fire in Old Dhaka’s Armanitola area, taking the death toll to four, said the fire officials.

Confirming the matter, an official of the fire department media cell told The Financial Express that four people were killed in the fire that broke out at the ground floor of a six-storied building named Haji Musa Mansion at 3:18 am on Friday.

Initially the fire fighters recovered two bodies from the spot but later they recovered two more bodies from the fourth floor of the building, he said, adding that 19 units of the fire service were able to douse the fire at about 6 am.

The Fire Service Headquarters Control Room duty officer Rasel Sikder told the FE that a total of 22 people were injured.

The injured are being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital, he said.

Of the injured, four are now being treated at the ICU in those hospitals, Sikder said.

One unit of the fire service is still working at the spot, he added.
