Police arrested on Friday one person for his alleged involvement in a daring mugging incident where a gold chain and a purse were snatched from a young lady at a place near East West School at West Shewrapara in the capital.
The arrestee was identified as Imran Khan Shakil alias Shakil.
One motorbike, Tk2,500 cash and one cleaver were also recovered from the arrestee's possession.
Deputy Commissioner, Mirpur zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Mohammad Maksudur Rahman disclosed the development to the media at Mirpur Model Police Station in the city.
Mr Maksudur said that they have managed to glean names of some other persons from the arrestee, who had involvement in the incident of mugging.
He also said the arrestee and his other accomplices used to commit mugging not only in Mirpur but also in other areas of the city.
The police officer said a video footage went viral on the social media showing a group of muggers forcibly taking away a gold chain and a purse from a young lady, with one among them brandishing a cleaver, at a place adjacent to East West School at West Shewrapara in the capital.
After seeing the video footage, police found out the victim.
