One killed, three injured in Dhaka-Mawa Expressway accident

One killed and three others were injured in a road accident involving two motorcycles and a pickup van on the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj’s Sirajdikhan upazila early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Rakib. The accident occurred around 4:30am on the Kuchiamora flyover, said Dewan Mohammad Azad Hossain, station officer of Srinagar Fire Service.

Quoting witnesses, he said a motorcycle heading towards Mawa lost control and crashed into the rear of a moving pickup van in the Kuchiamora area. The impact threw the rider off the bike, causing severe head injuries. Shortly after, another motorcycle from behind also lost control and crashed at the same spot.

The two motorcycles were carrying four people in total. One died on the spot while three others sustained injuries. Members of the fire service rescued the victims and took them to a local hospital, Azad Hossain added.

Hazara Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Kader Jilani said that reckless speeding led to the accidents. Traffic on the expressway returned to normal after the damaged vehicles were removed, he added.
