A total of 17,12,492 taxpayers submitted their income tax returns online during the fiscal year ending June 30, while 21,65,321 individuals completed their e-return registration.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering all types of income tax services directly to taxpayers’ doorsteps by leveraging automation and digital innovations, according to a press release.

As part of its digital transformation efforts, the NBR’s online income tax return submission system has been widely welcomed by taxpayers, marking a revolutionary step in tax services and encouraging spontaneous return filing across the country.

Based on continuous feedback and expectations from taxpayers, the online return submission system has been further simplified and made more user-friendly, the press release said.

To ensure uninterrupted service delivery, the NBR has continued its round-the-year online return submission platform, including instant issuance of income tax certificates online — a service that will remain available in the future as well.

In addition, under Section 180(2) of the Income Tax Act 2023, taxpayers who identify any error or omission in their original return after submission will continue to have the opportunity to file a revised return online from home within 180 days, as per Section 180(1) of the same law.

The NBR has extended its sincere thanks to all taxpayers who submitted their income tax returns online and urged them to continue using the online platform year-round for both return submission and obtaining income tax certificates.
