Over 5,000 Imams and Muezzins get interest-free microcredit worth Tk 40m

Imams and Muezzins have started getting interest-free microloans under the supervision of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

This loan assistance is being provided by the Imam-Muazzin Welfare Trust to the Imam-Muazzin who have received training at the Imam Training Academy of the Islamic Foundation of this ministry.

In addition, financial assistance is being provided to financially indigent Imam-Muezzins from this trust, according to the ministry on Monday.

In the current fiscal year 2024-25, 600 Imam-Muezzins across the country have already been given interest-free loans of Tk 10.8 million. In the same fiscal year, Tk 20.31 million is being distributed as financial assistance to 4,620 Imam-Muezzins.

Out of this, Tk 14.75 million has been distributed to 295 people in Dhaka district. The work of distributing the remaining money among the selected people is underway.

A total of Tk 40.11 million is being distributed to these two sectors from the Imam-Muazzin Welfare Trust.

It is to be noted that if an Imam or Muazzin becomes incapacitated due to serious accident, disability, incurable disease, etc., or dies suddenly, this Imam-Muazzin Welfare Trust was formed in 2001 to provide financial assistance and loans to them, financial assistance for the education of their talented children, and the welfare of their families.
