Hot on the heels of delirious tensions between Delhi and Islamabad, Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has postponed his Bangladeshis visit, scheduled for April 26-28.
"We have requested the deferment, and new date is yet to be finalised," a spokesperson for the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka told the FE on Thursday evening.
Mr Dar was scheduled to meet Bangladesh Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain on Monday morning at the state guesthouse Padma and pay a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus in the afternoon before his departure.
The groundwork for the visit was laid during the foreign secretary-level Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) held in Dhaka on April 17, the first such meeting in 15 years.
Tension between the two nuclear-armed rival neighbours-India and Pakistan, partitioned in 1947 at the end of British rule in the subcontinent-shot up following the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which resulted in the death of 26 people.
On Wednesday, India took strong diplomatic steps against Pakistan on suspicion of Pak link to the attack, including suspending the Indus water-sharing treaty and sealing land border. Pakistan Thursday retaliated with counteraction, including shutting its airspace to India.
The interim government has taken initiative to boost ties with Pakistan, which was largely ignored during the previous regime headed by deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
