Parliament mourns deaths of Kuwait’s Emir, noted personalities

The Jatiya Sangsad unanimously adopted a condolence motion on Tuesday expressing profound grief at the demise of Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, three former members of parliament, including ex-minister Syed Abul Hossain, and casualties in different accidents at home and abroad.

The two other former members of Parliament are former state minister Zinatunnesa Talukder and Akram Hossain Chowdhury MP (Noagaon-3).

Besides, the House expressed deep shock at the deaths of some noted personalities, including former ambassador Wali-ur Rahman, former IGP Nurul Anwar, National Professor Brigadier (Retd) Abdul Malik and German legendary footballer Franz Beckenbauer.

The Parliament also expressed deep grief at the death of lawmaker Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya’s son, Sajedul Hossain Chowdhury Dipu and a director at Parliament Secretariat Labonya Ahmed.

The House expressed profound shock and sorrow at the loss of lives in earthquakes in Japan and Nepal, coal mine accident in China, train fires at Gopibagh in the capital and Gazipur, arson violence unleashed by BNP-Jamaat before the election, a ferry accident in Manikganj, other accidents at home and abroad.

Newly re-elected Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the motion in the maiden session of the 12th parliament.

A one-minute silence was observed, and a munajat offered, seeking eternal peace for the departed souls.  Independent lawmaker Mohammad Huchamuddin Chowdhury (Sylhet-5) conducted the munajat.
