CHATTOGRAM, June 10: The authorities of Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport began screening passengers for coronavirus on June 9 amid concerns over potential resurgence of the respiratory disease.
A medical team led by the Chattogram divisional health officer has been deployed at the airport to conduct the screening programme. So far, no passengers have tested positive for the disease.
Engineer (Public Relations) of Shah Amanat International Airport Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil said that health screening equipment has been installed at the immigration entrance in the international arrival hall.
Urgent instructions have been issued for everyone to wear masks at sensitive points at the airport terminal. Arrangements have been made to stockpile masks and gloves on an emergency basis for airport health workers. Besides, disease prevention guidelines are being disseminated to increase public awareness among passengers to prevent the spread of the virus. It is reported that the new variant of coronavirus, NB.1.8.1, has spread in India, prompting the airport authorities to take special measures in this regard.
