Passengers vandalised Rajshahi Railway Station on Tuesday as train services were suspended due to the work stoppage by running staff.
Several hundred passengers were unable to board any trains, staged protests and engaged in vandalism from 7:00 am to 8:00 am, according to Rajshahi Railway Station's acting station master, Shahidul Alam, as per local media reports.
He said, “The agitated passengers damaged chairs and tables in one of the TTEs' rooms. Other rooms remained locked during the incident. They also vandalised several chairs placed around the station.”
“The situation calmed down after army personnel arrived and attempted to restore order. The passengers eventually left after receiving refunds for their tickets,” he added.
The acting station master further mentioned that train services had been suspended since midnight on Tuesday due to the work stoppage.
However, the Padma Express, which had departed from Dhaka on Monday night, arrived in Rajshahi early Tuesday morning.
Shahidul Alam stated that, further action would be taken after discussion with the higher authorities regarding the damages and vandalism.
