CHATTOGRAM, Dec 06: The construction of the Coastal Road, popularly known as Chattogram Ring Road, with updated design is nearing completion.

To date, 70 per cent of the intersection work has been done at the Patenga junction, which connects three mega projects and two important points. Once this remaining work is completed, the entire Chattogram Ring Road project is expected to be fully finished by June 2026.

Chief Engineer of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) Engineer Kazi Hasan Bin Shams said that the construction of the significant project of Chattogram at the Karnaphuli Tunnel point would be completed by June.

Earlier, Sagorika Feeder Road, which is also a part of the Chattogram Ring Road, was opened before the inauguration of the Karnaphuli tunnel.

It may be mentioned that the government had set December this year as the deadline for completing the construction of the major interchange. The work is being implemented under the Chattogram Outer Ring Road Project.

The ECNEC had approved the Revised Development Project Proposal (RDPP) involving Tk 6.48 billion for construction of the project on June 6, 2023. Three mega projects are Karnaphuli Tunnel, 16.5-km long Elevated Expressway and 15.2-km long Coastal Road and Chattogram Outer Ring Road Project and two important points are the Shah Amanat International Airport link and Patenga sea beach.

Officials said the CDA undertook the project to ensure smooth and safe traffic management at the confluence of these major installations.

The construction of the Chattogram Ring Road, the Karnaphuli Tunnel and the 16.5-km Elevated Expressway has already been completed. The CDA is now developing the interchange structure on the north bank of the Karnaphuli, while the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry is constructing three similar interchange facilities on the south bank.
