Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patiya Police Station Abu Zayed Md Nazmun Noor was removed from his position on Wednesday night amid ongoing protests.

Chattogram District Superintendent of Police, Saiful Islam, confirmed the removal, stating that the officer has been reassigned to the Chattogram Range Deputy Inspector General’s (DIG) office.

The protests were led by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizen Party (NCP), following a confrontation with police.

Protesters blocked the road at Indrapul, causing significant traffic disruptions. NCP activists also shut down Zakir Hossain Road in Chattogram city from 3 pm to 7 pm.

Earlier in the day, the Student Movement detained 29-year-old Dipankar Dey, a member of the banned Chhatra League, and took him to the Patiya Police Station.

As there were no charges against Dey, the police initially refused to arrest him, sparking a standoff.

Police used batons to disperse the protesters, resulting in several injuries, and as tensions continued to rise, police later took Dey into custody.
