People returning home from cyclone centres as wind speed slows

People have started returning home from cyclone centres since the afternoon as the wind speed of the cyclonic storm Mocha has slowed in the coastal areas.

Saint Martin Union Parishad Chairman Mujibur Rahman said around 7,000 people on the island took refuge at cyclone centres.

Apart from three cyclone centres, 37 hotels, resorts and multi-storied buildings have been used as shelters in the district, he said. People started returning home from the cyclone centres, Mujibur Rahman added.

Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Kamruzzaman said trees have been uprooted and some houses have been damaged in the storm.

He said there is no report of a death in the cyclone, but one person received injuries as a tree fell on him.

Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Shahin Imran said a total of 700 cyclone centres were prepared in the district, and 2,32,377 people took shelter at those centres.

Besides, 10,000 cattle were given shelter at the centres, he said.

The DC said people have been returning to the district since the afternoon.
