The interim government would not allow any attempts to push the country toward violence, said Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Shafiqul Alam, on Wednesday.

“If killers hold any protest or rally, the people of Bangladesh will strongly resist them,” Alam said in a Facebook post, referring to the Awami League.

His statement came a day after the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League announced hartals (general strikes) on February 16 and 18.

Alam accused the Awami League government of being responsible for mass killings, murders, and atrocities during the July uprising.

Citing an independent panel, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary said that Hasina’s close associates had laundered $234 billion.

He added that investigations were underway against her family for allegedly embezzling tens of millions from corrupt deals.

Alam alleged that Hasina had led "a kleptocracy and killer regime".

“Until the Awami League publicly apologises for genocide, killings, and corruption, until its wrongdoers surrender to the justice system, and until it distances itself from its current leadership and fascist ideology, they will not be allowed to protest,” he said.

“Did the Allied forces allow the Nazis to protest?” he rhetorically asked.

Alam warned that if anyone dared to hold an illegal protest under the banner of the Awami League, they would face the full force of the law.
