United International University (UIU) has conditionally withdrawn permanent expulsion orders against several students following day-long protests and an ultimatum from students.
However, some students remain temporarily suspended for two semesters, according to local media reports.
The decision came at an emergency meeting of the university’s disciplinary committee on Saturday night (21 June). A notice signed by Registrar Dr Md Zulfiqar Rahman confirmed the development.
According to the notice, the expulsion orders were reviewed upon student appeals. Permanent expulsions have been replaced with "suspended expulsions," allowing the affected students to resume classes from the Spring 2025 semester, unless they violate university rules again.
A few students remain suspended for Spring and Summer 2025, after which they may return, but their "suspended expulsion" status will continue, the notice said.
